Mama Hack: Padsicles, Not Popsicles
What's your name + how many kids do you have
Shellaine Vicera. I have a 2.5 year old daughter named Shelloncé and a 4 month old named Ronan
One word, “soothing”. It’s a more comfortable way to help with the swelling and recovery. It’s the alternative to putting a bag of ice down there.
When did you discover padsicles + what is your secret recipe/how do you prepare them
My best friend who was pregnant via IVF told me about it. It’s simply a really thick overnight pad with wings, drizzled with a table spoon of witch’s hazel (this helps with the swelling after a vaginal birth) and distribute/smear on the pad a generous amount of aloe vera (helps soothe the skin) using the same spoon. I bought a liquid form of aloe vera and just sprayed it on the pad concentrating on the middle. You can put a drop of lavender essential oil if you want for a nice scent but I’ve never done that with both my pregnancies. When you open up a new pad, do not remove the plastic. Place the aloe Vera and witch hazel then fold up the pad back into its original state. Store them in a ziploc freezer bag and place in the freezer. It’s best to make them in advance like a month before your due date. One less thing to worry about when baby arrives.
When do you start using them + for approximately how long
Right when I got home from the hospital I used them. At first it’s a bit uncomfortable for a second just because it’s cold but it’s just soothing after. I used until the bleeding stopped. Around 2 weeks.
Why do you love them
One word SOOTHING. It’s a more comfortable way to help with the swelling and recovery. It’s the alternative to putting a bag of ice down there. Sorry too much info. Lol
Do you have any other survival tips to share for new moms or mamas-to-be
For those who are pregnant, though it may be uncomfortable at times, enjoy it. This is certainly the best time to celebrate your femininity. When your child is born, you are the most important person that matters to them in this world. Enjoy the cuddles because in a snap, before you know it, they will be independent lil citizens trying to do exactly what their parents do. Also don’t forget to give back to yourself whether it be something you are passionate or love to do, whether it be working out etc. You need ME time as well. Give back to yourself so you may give unto others (your kids and family).
